Dear all,

Finally, spring arrived with summer temperatures in time for the public holidays in May and the National Constitution Day celebration on May 17.

Spring is also a time for several interesting scientific events.

Already taken place:

– April 10, NSB held its 2024 symposia at BBB with interesting short talks by young scientist from the Sars centre, the Biology department, Pluvia and IBM. Rodolfo Baldinotti and Øyvind Strømland  represented IBM with very well-presented talks about nano-based detection of endogeneous Arc-Arc-complexes in hippocampal neurons and the role of PARP14 in mono-ADP-ribosylation, respectively.

– May 14-15, CCBIO arranged its annual symposium at Solstrand, with a full program centered around different aspects of cancer and cancer treatment.

– May 21, opening of a center for women’s health research in Bergen (Driv, https://www.uib.no/driv) at Etri.

– May 23, the newly appointed Honorary Doctor at UiB Dr. Alberto Ascherio held his Honorary Doctorate Lecture at BBB. Alberto Ascherio showed that there is a link between MS and the Epstein Barr virus. In collaboration with researchers at UiB, he hopes that the next step will be to develop a vaccine against the disease.

Vacation Time is Approaching – Have You Remembered to Apply for Your Vacation This Year?

According to the Holiday Act, the main vacation period includes 15 vacation days and must be taken between June 1 and September 30.
By the end of this period, the University of Bergen expects that all employees have taken at least 15 vacation days.

Bruken av språkmodellen ChatGPT og lignende tjenester har fått allmenn utbredelse siden lanseringen av ChatGPT seint i 2022. Generativ kunstig intelligens (KI) bringer med seg mange muligheter, men innebærer også noen utfordringer.

Bård er utdannet ved Sjøkrigsskolen og har lang erfaring fra operativ tjeneste og lederutvikling i Forsvaret. Bård er en aktiv foredragsholder innen team og ledelse, og brenner for å gjøre forskning tilgjengelig og praktisk.

I samarbeid med likesinnede ved UiO, NTNU og UiT har UiB de siste 4 årene arrangert en nasjonal forskningskonferanse i medisinsk og helsefaglig pedagogikk.
I år er konferansen 5 år og skal arrangeres i Bergen, 24.-25. oktober.
Dette er flott arena for å bli kjent med pågående forskning innen feltet i Norge. Vi håper mange har lyst til å være med og evt. bidra med å dele lærdom og forskningsresultater!!

I 2024 vil Det medisinske fakultet for fjerde gang lyse ut meritteringsordningen ved fakultetet. Tittelen «merittert underviser» kan tildeles vitenskapelig ansatte som har vist betydningsfull innsats for å sikre utdanningskvalitet i bred forstand, og tildeles etter søknad. Her kan du lese mer om ordningen, blant annet hvem som kan søke og hva søknaden må inneholde.

Alle norske universiteter krever en datahåndteringsplan (DMP) for alle prosjekter. Alle prosjekter som mottar finansiering fra Norges forskningsråd (NFR) må levere en datahåndteringsplan så snart som mulig etter at kontrakten med NFR er signert. Denne workshopen fokuserer på hvordan man kan lage en datahåndteringsplan for et forskningsprosjekt innen livsvitenskap som oppfyller begge kravene.

Vi ønsker å invitere forskere (PhD-kandidater, postdoktorer, forskere, førsteamanuenser og professorer) i eksisterende og kommende livsvitenskapsprosjekter til å utvikle deres DMP i denne workshopen.

CCBIO Junior Scientist Symposium, June 6th, 2024.

This seminar series is a perfect place to meet and interact with other young scientists. We anticipate lively and interesting discussion as always. It is a pleasure to present Geir Olav Løken, Administrative Leader of CCBIO, as the keynote speaker. He will use his decades long experience in mediating between researchers and the administration to elaborate on how to best interact with “the other side” and point out pitfalls and coping strategies. Anna Gorbunova, a new post doc in Carina Strell’s group, will present the prognostic impact of mitochondrial proteins in lung cancer. You will also learn more about how to target homology repair deficiency in breast cancer, tissue engineering of bone marrow and precision medicine in children’s cancer. Please within June 3rd at 11.00.

Industrial PhD Scheme – Doctoral Projects in Industry 2024

The Research Council has established the Industrial PhD Scheme to boost research efforts and long-term competence-building for Norwegian trade and industry through the recruitment of doctoral candidates. The scheme is also intended to promote closer cooperation between the business sector and research organisations as a necessary step in promoting knowledge transfer from researchers to society at large. The target group is companies. The Industrial PhD Scheme provides companies with the opportunity to expand their research knowledge and expertise without having to participate in a more comprehensive R&D project.

Olav Tjomslands legat – IBM

Det kan søkes om midler til innkjøp av biokjemisk laboratorieutstyr ved Institutt for biomedisin, Universitetet i Bergen. Stiftelsen skal dele ut inntil kr 400 000 i 2024.

• Finansiering av laboratorieutstyr. Søknaden må inneholde et nylig innhentet pristilbud, og en finansieringsplan. Bidrag av egenfinansiering vil ha positiv betydning.

• Forskningsutstyret vil tilhøre Institutt for biomedisin. Søknaden må beskrive hvordan en tildeling vil styrke forskningen ved instituttet.

• Utstyr til biokjemisk forskning vil bli prioritert.

• Midlene vil være tilgjengelig til 31. desember året etter tildelingsåret.

The Novo Nordisk Prize recognizes an active scientist who has provided outstanding international contributions to advance medical science for the benefit of people’s lives. The Prize is intended to award and further support biomedical research in Europe.

Forskerforbundets hjernekraftpris 2024

Alle medlemmer av Forskerforbundet kan nominere alle andre medlemmer av forbundet til «Forskerforbundets hjernekraftpris». Man kan også nominere seg selv.

I utlysningen skriver de: «Den nominerte skal være en person som har gitt samfunnet betydelige bidrag gjennom sitt kunnskapsarbeid. Det kan være et forskningsprosjekt, en utstilling, en innovasjon, et arkiv, et undervisningsopplegg, nyskapende publikumsformidling, bidrag til samfunnsdebatten eller et annet samfunnsnyttig bidrag. Den nominerte bør svare til ett eller flere av kriteriene».

Prisen er på til sammen 200 000 kroner, og kan fordeles på en eller flere vinnere.
