Dear colleagues,  

The OSCE exam has recently been held, and organizing and conducting such a comprehensive and important exam is no small task. It would not have been possible without the significant effort of everyone involved. Those who contributed to designing and preparing the exam tasks, setting up, contributing to planning, administering the exam day itself, evaluating and assessing the students’ performances, and other sort of involvement- each one of you has played a central role! The OSCE exam is an important part of our medical education, and it is thanks to your efforts that we can continue to deliver a high-quality education and prepare our students for the challenges and opportunities that await them in their future careers. So, I want to thank all of you for the time, effort, and commitment you have put into this! 

This will be the last newsletter before the summer, so I want to take this opportunity to wish you a fantastic summer and enjoy the holiday when the time comes! I also want to thank all of you for the great work that has been done this semester in administration, support, teaching, research, and dissemination.

How to meet Open Science requirements

The University Library offers guidance and support services for adopting open science practices and meeting requirements from funders and policy makers. In recent years, there has been an increasingly strong focus on open access to publications and research data and good data handling practices. This is reflected in expectations and demands from financiers, authorities and institutions. At UiB, a policy for open science was adopted in 2020, which forms the basis for UiB’s further work in these areas.

Alrekdagene 2023

2023 er året for å prioritere, og dette blir hovedtema for årets Alrekdager. Klare meldinger om innstramming og prioritering har kommet fra ministerhold til både helsesektoren og forskning- og høyere utdanning. Hvillke områder står i fare for å bli prioritert bort når midlene blir færre, og hvilke langtidsvirkninger kan dagens prioriteringsvalg få? Fredagen inviterer vi til tematiske fagdebatter, der vi utforsker hvilke samfunnsutfordringer vi her i vest er godt posisjonert til å ta fatt på – og hvordan sikre midlene vi trenger for å realisere prosjekter?
Nytt for i år er konseptet Digitale fagseminarer – hvor dyktige foredragsholdere inviteres til å snakke om viktige temaer rettet mot ansatte i helse- og omsorgstjenestene.

Saman med Universitetet i Oslo har vi gleda av å invitere til Panoramaseminaret 2023 i Oslo.
Panoramaseminaret tek for seg muligheter og utfordringer i akademisk samarbeid med landa som er omfatta av Panoramastrategien: Canada, Brasil, India, Japan, Kina, Russland, Sør-Afrika, Sør-Korea og USA.
Seminaret blir en viktig møteplass for norske fagmiljø og institusjoner som samarbeider med disse landa innen utdanning, forsking og næringsliv.

Til demensforskere og andre interesserte

Nasjonalforeningen for folkehelsen er en frivillig, humanitær organisasjon som jobber med folkehelse, forskning på hjerte- og karsykdommer og demens, og er en interesseorganisasjon for personer med demens og deres pårørende.
Gjennom vårt demensforskningsprogram er det nå anledning til å søke om postdoktorstipend. Søknader sendes inn via vår søknadsportal.
Bare forskning kan stoppe demens (nasjonalforeningen.no)

Søknadsskjema Blix fond 2023

Familien Blix’ fond til fremme av medisinsk forskning ble opprettet 1. desember 1983. Styreleder er advokat Erik Keiserud. Formålet med fondet er å støtte medisinsk forskning, særlig innen feltene hjerte- og karsykdommer og kreft, inkludert medisinsk diagnostikk innen disse feltene.
Støtte fra fondet vil i særlig grad gå til drift av forskningsprosjekter som kombinerer basal- og klinisk forskning, med spesiell vekt på søknader fra yngre forskere. Det vil ikke bli gitt midler til lønn eller kongressreiser.

Søknaden må være sendt senest 25. juni 2023 og må skrives på fastsatt skjema som vedlegges.

Innovative Health Initiative – upcoming calls and info days

IHI provides financing for health research projects that bring together industries, universities, small- and medium enterprises, patients regulators and others. It is a partnership, co-funded by the European Union and industrial partners. The partnership has funded over 180 projects over the last 14 years and researchers from the Faculty of Medicine have participated in four of these. (see funded projects)
IHI usually calls for large projects (4-20 MIO EUR, 3-5 years) with an intersectoral consortium containing industry partners, for specific topics to be addressed. Call topics are published well in advance so that researchers can start to build their consortia.
In June, IHI will hold info-days where you can learn about upcoming calls, rules and procedures and find partners for your consortium.

The following calls will open in summer 2023:
Two-stage calls:

• Expanding translational knowledge in minipigs: a path to reduce and replace non-human primates in non-clinical safety assessment
• Patient-centric blood sample collection to enable decentralised clinical trials and improve access to healthcare
• Inclusive clinical studies for equitable access to clinical research in Europe
• Establishing novel approaches to improve clinical trials for rare and ultra-rare diseases
• Safe & sustainable by design (SSbD) packaging and single use device solutions for healthcare products
• Sustainable circular development and manufacturing of healthcare products and their quantitative environmental impact assessment.

One-stage calls:

• Accelerating the implementation of new approach methodologies and other innovative non-animal approaches for the development, testing and production of health technologies
• Development and proof of principle of new clinical applications of theranostics solutions
• Improved prediction, detection, and treatment approaches for comprehensive stroke management
• Maximising the potential of synthetic data generation in healthcare applications
