Dear colleagues,
The are several joyful news from the last couple of weeks. First, we will congratulate Monica Hellesvik with the work environment award that she received from The Faculty of Medicine on the HMS-day, February 22nd, for her work to improve the daily life for our PhD candidates.
It keeps coming good innovation initiatives from our department, and it is particularly inspiring to see that as many as three such projects just received funding from the Norwegian Research Council. Congratulations to Nils Halberg, Per Øyvind Enger and Olav Tenstad! Soon our department will take over the operational responsibility for the lab in our local innovation incubator, Eitri (eitrilab.no). We hope this will become a well-functioning facility that can foster and welcome many new biomedical startups in the future.
Important new developments have been signaled regarding the protocol for research applications to the Norwegian Research Council (Fripro program). This includes removal of deadlines, but you may be quarantined for a while if your proposal scores below the threshold. There are also new regulations for the young talents program. UiB has now published the updated strategy plan. The main ambitions towards 2030 relates to various aspects of strengthening education and scientific excellence Strategi 2023–2030 | Aktuelt | UiB. Our Rector, Margareth Hagen, comments that the strategy shall guide the further development as a research-intensive university with ambitions for international high-quality research.
The first signs of the sprouting spring are here, but it is still possible to enjoy the remains of the winter. Now is a good time to get outdoors and embrace the elements:)
