Startup seminar for Carina Strell – CCBIO

Join us for two and a half days of talks, discussions, and workshops covering topics ranging from metagenomics, diagnostic bioinformatics, phylogenetics to biostatistics, machine learning, and molecular modeling.

Dear PhD Candidate at the Faculty of Medicine, UiB. We are pleased to inform you that we will now resume the PhD Start-up seminar for new PhD candidates at the faculty. Due to corona, this seminar has not been presented lately, but now we can meet and share experiences and information again. We invite all candidates who started from 1 July 2021 to 1 August 2022.
This is a heads up for you to reserve the time in your calendar. We are planning a program with focus on information to be of help and support for you in your early-stage period of your PhD study and interesting speakers to share their experiences as active candidates in the PhD program and alumna to give a broader perspective from the PhD education to pursue a career after finishing the PhD.
We will end the seminar with a lunch, a good opportunity to get to know your fellow PhD candidates and to do some networking as well. Please, reserve this time for the PhD Start-Up seminar:

Midler til samarbeidsprosjekt innen Globale samfunnsutfordringer – ekstra utlysing

Globale samfunnsutfordringer (GSU) ønsker å stimulere til nye faglige samarbeidskonstellasjoner og lyser ut midler som kan søkes av vitenskapelig ansatte med hovedstilling ved UiB (inkludert postdoc og PhD kandidater). Formålet med midlene er å stimulere til tverrfakultært og tverrfaglig forskningssamarbeid. Minimum to fakulteter skal være involvert i samarbeidet.
Prosjektene som støttes skal falle inn under et eller flere av GSUs prioriterte områder; migrasjon, helse og ulikhet. Samlet ramme for utlysningen er kr 350 000. Det bevilges midler til møter, seminarer eller reiser som har til hensikt å utvikle tverrfaglige forskningsprosjekter. Prosjektene skal inneholde konkrete planer om søknader til eksterne finansieringskilder eller videre forskningssamarbeid. Det bevilges maksimum kr 100000 per prosjekt. Midlene må benyttes innen utgangen av 2023.
Søknaden skal inneholde en kort beskrivelse av formål, samarbeidsrelasjoner og plan for aktiviteten, samt budsjett. Søknaden skal ikke overstige 2 sider. Søknadsfrist 15. september 2022. Søknad sendes i ePhorte fra hovedsøkers institutt/fakultet.
Merk: Det bevilges ikke midler til deltagelse på konferanser etc., lønn, driftsmidler til forskning, pilotstudier eller utvikling av forskingsmateriale. Vi støtter heller ikke gjentagende aktiviteter som for eksempel arrangement av årlige konferanser/seminarer.

Momentum career development programme for early stage researchers

The Momentum programme is planned to be arranged for the fifth time, starting in February 2023. It is now opened for applications. The deadline for applications is 17:00 on the 23. September 2022.
The programme allows 15 candidates, with 3 candidates from The Faculty of Medicine.

The Momentum Programme includes five seminars, planned to run between February and October 2023.
The seminars are structured around the key categories career development and external funding, with the topics of the seminars being excellence, impact, research leadership and implementation, internationalisation, and grant writing.
In addition to the seminar series, Momentum delegates receive a NOK 100 000 stipend to spend on mentoring, travel, networking, research stays, conferences, workshops and other activities directly related to their career development.
Mentoring: NOK 50 000 of the stipend can be used to work with an international academic mentor. Faculties and/or institutes/centers are responsible for helping to find a suitable mentor. It is not mandatory to engage a mentor.
Who can apply? Postdocs, researchers and associate professors employed at UiB can apply to Momentum.

Kolbjørn Brambanis kreftforskningsstipend 2022

Søknadsfrist 30. september 2022. Kolbjørn Brambanis legat for kreftforskning, i samarbeid med Onkologisk Forum, deler i år ut et kreftforskningsstipend på kr. 400.000, eventuelt to stipend á kr 200.000. Brambanis legat ønsker spesielt å prioritere forskning på kreft hos barn og unge, men også annen kreftforskning vil støttes. Kolbjørn Brambanis kreftforskningsstipend – ONKOLOGISK FORUM
Stipendet skal gi økonomisk bistand til medisinere under sitt PhD -arbeide, eller være et tilskudd til fortsatt forskningsarbeid etter avlagt PhD. Stipendet kan med fordel benyttes til utenlandsopphold, men frikjøp fra klinisk arbeid eller finansiering av utstyrsbehov kan også være aktuelt.
Søknad må inneholde et resyme og vurdering av søkerens beste artikler samt oversikt over planlagt bruk av stipendet. Referanseliste og relevant CV bes vedlagt. Søknaden skal skrives på engelsk.
Den som mottar stipend må opprette en prosjektkonto hos arbeidsgiver, og det forutsettes at stipendet benyttes i forståelse med arbeidsgiver. Det forutsettes videre at styret i Kolbjørn Brambanis Legat mottar en rapport om bruken av stipendet senest 2 år etter tildeling. Nærmere detaljer om dette vil framkomme i tildelingsbrev.
Søknadene vil vurderes av en komite og avgjørelse fattes av styret i Kolbjørn Brambanis Legat. Stipendet vil overrekkes under Onkologisk Forum 17. -18. november 2022.

Kolbjørn Brambani’s cancer research grant 2022
Application deadline 30 September 2022. Kolbjørn Brambani’s endowment for cancer research, in collaboration with Onkologisk Forum, is awarding a cancer research grant of NOK this year. 400,000, possibly two grants of NOK 200,000. Brambani’s endowment particularly wants to prioritize research into cancer in children and young people, but other cancer research will also be supported. Kolbjørn Brambanis kreftforskningsstipend – ONKOLOGISK FORUM
The scholarship will provide financial assistance to medics during their PhD work, or be a grant for continued research work after the PhD has been completed. The scholarship can be advantageously used for stays abroad, but exemption from clinical work or financing of equipment needs may also be relevant.
The application must contain a summary and assessment of the applicant’s best articles as well as an overview of the planned use of the grant. Please attach a reference list and relevant CV. The application must be written in English.
The recipient of the grant must set up a project account with the employer, and it is assumed that the grant is used in agreement with the employer. It is further assumed that the board of Kolbjørn Brambani’s Legat receives a report on the use of the grant no later than 2 years after award. More details about this will appear in the award letter.
The applications will be assessed by a committee and a decision made by the board of Kolbjørn Brambanis Legat. The scholarship will be awarded during the Oncological Forum 17 – 18. November 2022.

Dear Colleagues,

First, I would like to congratulate Nils Halberg who last week become Professor! I also congratulate all the master students that recently had their exam and have now been awarded the degree!

This semester has been the first in a while where we have had the possibility to gather again in person. I think this was about time and has been very nice. I really liked meeting so many of you during the Department Day, and the strategy day for the PIs I also found to be rewarding and stimulating. We should have a continued focus on social gatherings also during the fall

Due to the well-known challenging financial situation, we have found it necessary to cancel the permanent position at the front desk, and from 11th July it will no longer be open full time. The tasks related to this position will be distributed on the existing staff. “Fellesavdelingen” will handle the sending/receiving packages For sending packages, contact “Fellesavdelingen” on tel. no. 45 26 34 24. In July, there will be few people at work in the administration. Orders will go as usual, and if there is a need to resolve other issues then contact Frode and Janne by e-mail, and we will try to assist as best as we can.

Our department has not had a HR-officer dedicated for the last three years, but we have now received good news from the faculty that we will get such a person to the department during the fall. That is indeed great!

I would like to thank all of you for your great effort you have laid down so far this year and wish you a very nice and relaxing summer holiday!

Kaffepads må nå kjøpes privat

På grunn av omlegginger i Nespresso Norge er det ikke lenger mulig for oss å opprettholde dagens avtale om levering av kaffekapsler og service på kaffemaskinen i 6. etasje. Stian Krog har tidligere vært kontakt- og salgsperson for disse, men vil ikke lenger ha denne rollen.

De som vil ha kaffekapsler må derfor bestille slike privat i framtiden. Det finnes flere nettsider som selger kapsler som passer til maskinen, f.eks. denne: https://www.kaffekapslen.no/nes-professional.html (Dersom man bestiller 3 bokser av gangen får man gratis frakt, og prisen tilsvarer da omtrent det samme som før).

Vi vet ikke helt hva som kommer til å skje med selve kaffemaskinen i 6. etasje, men antar at denne vil være her til den ikke fungerer lenger, da Nespresso neppe vil ta inn en såpass brukt maskin. Dersom maskinen bryter sammen, vil instituttet ta en ny vurdering på en eventuell ordning med felles kjøp av kaffe.

Coffee pads must now be purchased privately

Due to a recent corporate restructuring in Nespresso Norway, it will no longer be possible for us to maintain today’s arrangement regarding delivery of coffee pads and maintenance of the coffee machine on the 6^th floor. Until now, Stian Krog has been the contact- and salesperson for these pads but will no longer have this function.

Those who would like to continue buying coffee pads and using the machine, must buy these privately. There are several web shops offering coffee pads of the relevant type, for example this one: https://www.kaffekapslen.no/nes-professional.html (This web shop in particular offers free shipping if purchasing 3 or more boxes, which will set the price per pad roughly to the same level as they are now being sold for).

We do not know for sure what will happen to the coffee machine in the 6^th floor itself, but it is reasonable to assume that it will stay here until it no longer functions, as Nespresso most likely will not collect a machine that is as heavily used as this one. If the machine breaks down, the department will reconsider a new collective arrangement regarding common purchase and sale of coffee pads.

Faddervakt

UiB er opptatt av at velkomstuken i uke 33 skal bli en god opplevelse, både for byens nye studenter og alle andre bergensere. I den forbindelse trenger vi frivillige kolleger som kan stille opp som faddervakter og bidra til en trygg og hyggelig velkomstuke.
Faddervaktordningen fungerer som en natteravn-ordning med et vaktnummer studenter eller faddere kan ringe til ved behov. Som frivillig går man rundt i sentrum i grupper på ca. fire, observerer og passer på at alle har det fint under fadderuken. De frivillige vil gå med refleksvester i sentrum fra ca. kl. 22 til kl. 03 i fadderuken (15. – 20. august). Man hjelper også til med å dele ut mat og vann til de som ønsker det. I tillegg skal en sørge for at de som ønsker det følges hjem, til buss, i taxi eller liknende. Faddervaktene skal være støttende, og skal på ingen måte erstatte offentlige tjenester.
Vi oppfordrer alle våre kolleger til å bidra som faddervakt. Det er kjekt og sosialt å være faddervakt, samt uvurderlig viktig for UiB. Dersom du tenker dette er noe du vil bidra med, kan du melde deg på her: https://www.sammen.no/no/bergen/studentliv/faddervaktordningen .

Enlist as a Welcome Week Watch!
UiB wants to make sure that the Welcome Week, 15. – 20. August is good experience, both for the arriving students and the other inhabitants of Bergen. In this regard, we are looking for volunteer colleagues to enlist as “Welcome Week Watch”. As a Welcome Week Watch you are patrolling the city center together with three other colleges in shift lasting form approximately 22.00 until 03.00. Your job is to observe and make sure that everyone is safe. The volunteers will wear high-visibility vests. As a watch, you also distribute food and water to those who need it, and make sure that people get home safely. This includes accompanying students that need it, to their home, bus, or taxi. The job of the watch is to be a support for the student, and you are not supposed to replace other public services. The watch service will be organized with a call central, that the volunteers or the students can call if they need assistance or advise. We encourage all our colleagues to contribute as a Welcome Week Watch. You get to know colleagues, and the service is important both for the students, Bergen and UiB as a whole.

Workshop on Single Molecule-based Super-resolution Microscopy: from Acquisition to Analysis, from Theory to Applications

The core facility for Single-Molecule Localization Microscopy (SMLM) located at the Department of Biomedicine (UiB) has recently been opened to all users. SMLM is a state-of-the-art technology, which dramatically improves spatial resolution over standard, diffraction-limited microscopy. Major biological insights have been made using this technology into the spatial and temporal organization of proteins and nucleic acids within subcellular compartments (such as nucleus, cytoplasm and plasma membrane) at nanoscale resolution. To help potential users become familiar with this cutting-edge technology, we will organize at least two workshops (1^st in 2022, 2^nd in 2023) addressing both theoretical and experimental considerations for SMLM, including fluorescent labeling, sample preparation, hardware requirements, image acquisition, analysis in live cells. Several outstanding scientists, who have developed novel labeling/acquisition/analysis for single molecule-based super-resolution imaging of protein or RNA, have confirmed their participation. This is a great opportunity to have a face-to-face interaction with these scientists, and bring your research questions and get inputs from them.

MOOC on challenge-based learning – CBL

Challenge-based learning (CBL) is an innovative and active approach to teaching and learning, which is relatively new to higher education. Arqus now organizes a MOOC (Massive Open Online Courses) aimed at teachers in higher education, and anyone interested in CBL, teaching and learning in higher education. The course will help you develop your skills to introduce challenge-based learning into your own teaching practice. The theory of the course is combined with practical examples and testimonials from teachers and students involved in CBL projects, in addition to other resources and assignments.
The MOOC starts 13 June 2022.

You do not need any prior knowledge to participate in the course, and it is divided into four units with a duration for four hours each. The course contains four units covering the following topics:
-Unit 1: Introduction to CBL

For actively participating in the course you will receive an automatic certificate which includes your username, the course name as well as the completed lessons.

Fibrosforskere møttes i Bergen

Donald Gullbergs forskningsgruppe i matrixbiolog holdt den 9. – 10. juni sitt andre symposium i matrixbiologi, innenfor rammene av et DIKU-finansiert nettverk (MOTIF: Mechanism og Tissue and Tumor Fibrosis) for student- og personellutveksling i Norge og Nord-Amerika, med fokus på fibrose.

Arendalsuka 2022 – Hvordan skal Norge fremme mer innovasjon fra Bioteknologiforskning?

Innovasjon er å skape verdier på nye måter. Det er noen utfordringer i dagens system som gjør det vanskelig å få til mer innovasjon fra bioteknologiforsking på en ansvarlig måte. Hvorfor er det slik og hva kan vi gjøre med det?
Senter for digitalt liv Norge har sett nærmere på problemstillingen gjennom prosjektet Innovation Roadmap . Resultatet ble to rapporter og en handlingsplan med pilotaktiviteter.
På dette arrangementet i Arendalsuka inviterer til diskusjon/samtale om «gap i det norske innovasjonssystemet i dag», «spesialisering faglig for å få til mer forskningsinnovasjon» og «åpen og lukket forskningen på samme tid».

Vi kickstarter Alrekdagene 2022 med en «Day Zero» onsdag 21. september, der vi viser filmen «Nattebarn» – en film om å velge livet. Det blir regissørsamtale, innlegg og diskusjon på tvers av idrett, musikk, helsetjenester og akademia. For studenter og arbeidsliv arrangerer vi karrieretorg fredag klokken 14:00. Vi avslutter med forskningsnatten «En generasjon satt på spill?» på Spillhuset i Bergen. Der inviterer vi foreldre til kunnskapspåfyll for å gjøre kloke beslutninger om gaming og helse sammen med sine barn. Alrekdagene arrangeres i samarbeid med Forskningsdagene i Bergen, og inngår i programmet til Innovasjonsuken OPP.

Vi vil med dette informere om karrieredagen 2022 som vil bli holdt onsdag 19. oktober fra klokken 09.00 til 16.00 i auditorium 1, i BB-bygget. I tillegg til innlegg fra representanter fra UiB og eksterne aktører, vil uteksaminerte kandidater oppdatere oss på hva de har gjort etter fullført forskerutdanning. Dagen avsluttes med en rekke relevante workshops. Det serveres lunsj, og det vil være god tid til mingling mellom de ulike delene.

Welcome to career day for all PhD candidates at the Faculty of Medicine! It will take place on October 19^th from 09.00 to 16.00 in auditorium 1, in the BB building at Haukeland. In addition to internal and external presenters, some of our earlier PhD candidates will update us on what they have done after graduating. Furthermore, there will be held several relevant workshops at the end of the day. Lunch will be served, and there will be good opportunities for mingling with your fellow candidates.

Methods in Cancer Biomarker Research
PhD course CCBIO905, September 27th – 29th 2022

The thematic parts include methods ranging from basic techniques on nucleotides and proteins to more advanced approaches, as well as bioinformatics and biobanking.

The course will focus on methods to study biomarkers in tissue samples, blood samples, circulating tumor cells and DNA, and other biologic materials. Methodologies like PCR techniques, microarray, next-generation sequencing, bioinformatics and artificial intelligence, immunohistochemistry, in situ hybridization, protein ligation assays, Western blot and ELISA, tissue microdissection and proteomics, flow cytometry, flow and imaging mass cytometry, and biobanking will be presented. Changes in nucleic acids and proteins in different settings will be discussed, as will the clinical applications.

Introduction to systematic review on PhD-level

The main course goal is to introduce Phd students to the genre of systematic review in academic writing, and show how to complete a systematic review for a doctoral thesis. Throughout the course, the Phd students will develop their understanding of systematic reviews and what purposes these can have in their own research. In addition, the course aims to develop the Phd students’ abilities and knowledge for designing and completing their own systematic review through familiarizing them with different kinds of research design, databases, search methods, analysis, and ways of presenting their findings.

1. Det vil ikke bli lyst ut frie rekrutteringsstillinger høsten-22

2. Det vil bli lyst ut 3 ph.d. stillinger høsten-22 forbeholdt forskerlinjestudenter

3. Avgjørelse om det skal utlyses frie rekrutteringsstillinger vår-23 vil bli truffet mot slutten av høsten-22 når vi ser hvordan økonomien utvikler seg.

4. Løfter om rekrutteringsstillinger i forbindelse med allerede innvilgende eksterne søknader, vil bli innfridd, men ansettelse i slike stillinger høsten-22 må utsettes til tidligst 1. januar-23.

5. I de tilfeller hvor det allerede er skrevet kontrakt om ansettelse høsten-22, kan dette gjennomføres

6. Kun enkle monteringsoppdrag og transportoppdrag vil bli gjennomført i denne perioden. I uke 30, fra mandag 25.juli til fredag 29.juli er enheten totalt nedstengt, og ingen materiell / transport oppdrag vil bli løst denne uken, grunnet nevnte ferieavvikling.

Vil du være pasient hos en tannlegestudent?

 Har du eller noen du kjenner behov for tannbehandling? Da har du sjansen til god og rimelig behandling nå. Pasienter ved studentklinikken betaler ca. halv pris i forhold til hos vanlig tannlege. Studentene får veiledning av tannleger og spesialister ved avdelingen og godkjenner arbeidet underveis og til slutt.
Behandling hos oss er aktuelt for alle med behov for tannbehandling. Det er særlig ved avdelingene oral protetikk (kroner, broer og avtakbare tannproteser) og endodonti (rotfylling) det er mangel på pasienter til studentene våre.
Som pasient hos oss, må du kunne stille til behandling til samme tid (enten 8.15-11 eller 12.45-15.30) og ukedag i perioden du går til behandling.
Institutt for klinisk odontologi er et av tre læresteder i Norge som utdanner tannleger. Tannlegestudentene i 3.-5. studieår utfører tannbehandling på pasienter. For at tannlegestudentene våre skal få tilstrekkelig klinisk trening, er de avhengige av pasienter. Behandling hos student tar noe lenger tid enn hos en ferdigutdannet tannlege, men er til gjengjeld rimeligere.

Dear colleagues!

We are near the end of the spring semester, and many of us are busy with preparation of exams or assessing exam papers. Many have also been occupied with writing applications and finishing manuscripts, so these are work-intensive times. Fortunately, summer soon will come with a break in teaching, we will have both some weeks with better possibilities to administer our own time, and vacation to collect our minds and gather strength before the autumn semester starts!

As you all know, Norwegian universities are in a challenging financial situation, which also is reflected in our faculty and in our department. This will cause challenges with staffing and with covering our teaching. Fortunately, it seems that we don’t immediately face serious problems with covering our teaching, although we need some adjustments as colleagues retire. On the bright side, we are currently in the process of evaluating applicants for two «Vestlandslege»-positions, covered financially through extra funding following an increase in number of students.

On the longer term, it is likely that the staff at the department is reduced. The faculty and the departments still have obligations to teach the courses that are parts of our programmes. We shall have to share the teaching tasks in a fair way, as rationally and as wisely as possible.

I always recommend to follow the seminars from the faculty’s Enhet for læring (Center for Medical Education), «Pedagogisk påfyll»! In addition, I remind you of the podcast on teaching in higher education from NOKUT, «NOKUT-podden». They have made one podcast on doing research on your own teaching practice, which is worth listening to: Den om å forske på egen undervisning

Good luck to all our master students with your final exams, and good luck to you all with the last weeks before summer! Keep your spirits up, and let us all contribute to our good work environment!

Mer forskning til studentene!

Mange av våre studenter ønsker å lære mer om forskning og en akademisk karrierevei, men opplever at det er vanskelig å komme i kontakt med fakultetets forskere.
Dette er ikke nødvendigvis studenter som i utgangspunktet er ute etter sommerjobb/stipend eller ph.d.-stipend, men studenter som gjerne vil lære mer om forskning og akademia før de eventuelt tar et slikt valg.
Det er et langsiktig mål for fakultetet å rekruttere flere personer med profesjonsutdanning inn i faste universitetsstillinger. Dette mener vi vil styrke både undervisningen og forskningen på sikt, og vi tror at det å gjøre fakultetets forskningsaktiviteter mer tilgjengelig for studentene vil bidra til dette.
Vi søker nå forskere på alle nivåer som kan tenke seg å være kontaktpersoner for studenter som vil lære mer om forskning.
Merk at det ikke foreligger noen lovnader om videre arbeid inn i forskningsgruppen, verken fra studentens eller forskerens side selv om kontakt oppstår.
Det viktige er at hvis du velger å delta på dette må du svare på de henvendelsene du måtte få fra studenter, og at du er tilgjengelig for møter med studenter (for eksempel i form av samtaler, omvisning på enhet, invitasjon til gruppeseminar).

More research for the students!

Many of our students want to learn more about research and an academic career path but find it difficult to get in touch with the faculty’s researchers. These are not necessarily students who are looking for, for example, a summer job/scholarship or PhD scholarship, but simply students who would like to learn more about research and academia.
It is a long-term goal for the faculty to recruit more people with education in medicine, odontology, nutrition, or pharmacy into permanent university positions. We believe this will strengthen both teaching and research in the long term, and that making the faculty’s research activities more accessible to students will contribute to this goal.
We are now looking for researchers at all levels who want to sign up as contact persons for students who want to learn more about research.
Note that there are no promises of further work into the research group, neither from the student’s nor the researcher’s side in this, even if meetings occur.
However, if you choose to participate in this, you must respond to inquiries you may receive from students, and you must be available for meetings with students (for example in the form of conversations, guided tours in the lab, invitation to group seminars).
Your name with contact information (e-mail) and a short description of your research field will be posted in the channels where we usually have contact with the students. We hope many will contribute to this «student portal for research».

BBB seminar 

Hani Goodarzi from the University of California San Francisco, USA, will give a talk entitled “Revealing the regulatory code underlying pathological regulation of RNA dynamics in metastasis”.

Position: Associate Professor, Department of Biochemistry & Biophysics, Bakar Computational Health Sciences Institute, Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center. 

Research field: Translational control of metastatic spread. 

Main achievements: Most recently: 2021: Vilcek Prize for Creative Promise in Biomedical Sciences & 2021: Mark Foundation ASPIRE Award. 

Seminar focus: Widespread aberrant splicing is now considered a hallmark of cancer, and many of the resulting transcript isoforms have been functionally implicated in tumorigenesis. However, the underlying regulatory pathways that govern RNA splicing and the extent to which they play a role in cancer progression remain largely unknown. Here, Dr. Goodarzi will present his ongoing efforts to uncover the underlying regulatory information that is encoded in the RNA sequence, its structure, and its binding partners.

CCBIO Seminar 

Torsten O. Nielsen from the Faculty of Medicine, University of British Columbia, Canada, will give a talk entitled “Breast cancer biomarker development: intrinsic subtypes, Ki67 and proteomics”. 

Position: Professor in Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. 

Research field:  Professor Nielsen is a clinician-scientist pathologist who has chosen to dedicate his career to translating basic science of cancer into new diagnostics and new therapies. His research has to date has focused on breast cancer and sarcomas. He provides pathology input into translational cancer research, bringing his skills in genomics and biomarker development into clinical trial design and the development of diagnostics that truly improve patient care. 

Main achievements: Major accomplishments include development of the PAM50 algorithm and FDA-cleared Prosigna assay; leading international standardization of Ki67 testing; and key work uncovering the biology of three kinds of sarcoma each of which led to new diagnostics and clinical trials of new therapies.

Innovative Health Initiative (IHI) European

The Innovative Health Initiative (IHI) European will hold an information and brokerage event online, on 14 June to share details of the first round of calls launching in June and support consortium building. IHI webinars are traditionally a good place to find consortium partners or join a consortium.

The following topics are under consideration for inclusion in the first IHI calls for proposals, which are planned to launch in June. IHI is publishing the draft topic texts in advance of the official call launch to give potential applicants additional time to start building a consortium and drafting a proposal. You will also find links to webinars arranged for each call.
IHI call 1 (single stage call)

CCBIO: Can science make sense of life?

Meet the 2022 Holberg Laureate, Sheila Jasanoff (Harvard University) in conversation with Stephen Hilgartner (Cornell University). Coffee/tea will be served before the seminar and light food and beverages afterwards. Jasanoff and Hilgartner are internationally leading scholars in Science and Technology Studies (STS) and have done extensive research on the social dimensions and politics of biomedicine and biotechnology (among other fields).

Konferansen skal si noe om hva som bidrar til kvalitet i doktorgradsløpet og vi spør: Hva må man gjøre for å sikre kvalitet i forskerutdanningen for å skape gode doktorer?

Fra 1.juni innfører UiB betaling for parkering – det gjelder også for plasser med egne reservertskilt. Det er kun når man faktisk parkerer på den reserverte plassen at man må betale. Enheter kan komme til å få spørsmål om dette da det vil stå betaling på skiltene inn til parkeringsområdene – så vi presiserer at det er unntak for følgende enheter/områder:

Allegt.70: Meterologisk institutt – leier parkeringsplasser, hvitelister brukerne sine – skal ikke betale ved parkering
